Hail, rain or snow, the first Saturday after Easter every year finds hardy Pony Clubbers at the Mackey Hunter Trial Championships. This year over 300 competitors and their ponies and horses travelled from far and wide to compete over a challenging course designed by Sam Deverell at Annaharvey Farm near Tullamore. 31 Branches of the Irish Pony Club were represented in the Senior and Junior competitions and the wet weather didn’t dampen anyone’s spirits! There were plenty of thrills and spills as all classes, including horn blowing, were hotly contested – the lucky winners taking home the trophies along with great prizes that we were delighted to sponsor. A lot of very tired ( and wet! ) volunteers and competitors left Annaharvey very late on Saturday evening but we can’t wait to do it all again next year!
